Two years ago, Clark decided it was time to make a change for her family. She always knew she wanted to work in the healthcare field.
“I had moved to Mankato, Minnesota to work in the Navy recruiting station, and I didn’t know anyone,” said Iris Clark, Rasmussen College School of Health Sciences graduate. “I wanted a career that allowed me to help others and still be home with my kids, one who was only 11-months-old at the time.” That’s when Clark found Rasmussen College, and the Medical Administration Associate’s degree program. Clark says it was exactly what she was looking for. She decided to go to school full time and earned her Associate’s degree in March.
“Rasmussen College was the perfect fit,” said Clark. “I hadn’t gone to school full time in 10 years, so I needed a school that would give me that extra attention.” Clark says she could not have asked for a better support system at the Rasmussen College Mankato campus. From career services to the instructors and faculty, Clark says everyone was friendly and helpful.
“I was never afraid to ask for help,” said Clark. “If an instructor or faculty member didn’t know the answer to my question, they would find someone who did. They got to know me personally, and I still go to them for career advice.” Prior to graduation, Rasmussen College helped Clark get a job at Open Door Health Center, a non-profit organization that provides family practice medical care, dental care, behavioral health services, and medication assistance in southern Minnesota. Clark is working as the administrative assistant to the CEO.
“I love my job,” said Clark. “I see myself working there for years to come.” Clark not only loves her job, she loves school! That’s why she decided to continue her education at Rasmussen College and earn her Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management.
“I decided, why not,” said Clark. “I have a better support system now, and I was already in the school mode routine. Rasmussen College Online allows me to work full time, be at home with my kids, and earn my Bachelor’s degree all at the same time.” Clark is also able to continue serving her country with the Navy Reserves. She has this advice for those looking to make a career change.
“Whether you just graduated from high school or are a single parent going back to school, you have to make a schedule, create a routine, and stick to it,” said Clark. “Remember, the sacrifice you make now will impact your family in the future.”
